Your health. Your province. Your say.

Important Update (02/14/2021)

Within the past week, we have seen a significant increase in the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19. We are now aware of the presence of the COVID-19 variant in our community. We are encouraged by the rapid and firm response of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the decision to move to Alert Level 5 for the whole province. We know that people are anxious about the safety of their family members and friends and are busy making plans in response to the increased restrictions. We are also aware of the additional burden now being placed on health care facilities and their staff members, and on the frontline workers in the broader community.

We had planned to begin our next set of virtual town hall meetings on Monday evening, February 15. These meetings are intended to get public input on the draft directions for Health Accord NL. In light of the new realities, we believe it wise to postpone this week’s meetings (Feb 15-18) and move them to the week of March 8. We will begin the regularly scheduled meetings on February 22. We will notify those who have registered for this coming week about the change in plan and offer our apologies to anyone who is inconvenienced by the changes.

Please see updated town hall schedule below.

Virtual Town Halls

When we last connected, we shared with you some shocking facts about health and health care in Newfoundland and Labrador.

You told us that in order to make our province a healthier place, we must work on the social factors that affect our health and improve access to health care services. We also heard your ideas for getting the system to perform better for the people it serves.

We listened to your hopes, concerns, and ideas and used them to create six directions for a 10-year health transformation.

You are invited to join the co-chairs, Dr. Patrick Parfrey and Sister Elizabeth Davis, for a virtual town hall to provide feedback on the directions we propose. We need your help to ensure we are headed in the right direction on our journey to better health.

These sessions are free and open to everyone in Newfoundland and Labrador. They are organized by region, but you are welcome to attend any session that fits your schedule. Interpreting services will be provided at all town halls.

It is a priority of the Task Force to receive guidance from provincial Indigenous leaders on the best ways to link with members of Indigenous communities. Initial engagement is underway with more details to be announced soon.
